How golf tournaments
work
Golf tournaments can be some of the most exciting and fun time’s
golfers will experience the entire golf season.
Traditionally golf tournaments are held by a 501 (c)(3) charity as a
fundraiser or by a business for a leadership or team building experience.
Golf tournaments are a great way to play a little
competitive golf while still developing friendships and fraternal bonds with
the other golfers. A golf tournament
will normally last around four to five or five and one half hours depending on
how many golfers and the format.
A sold out golf tournament is 144 golfers, but many golf
courses will allow tournaments with as few as 36 golfers. Some organizations,
like Golf and Grow, host monthly small-scale golf tournaments designed for
local business professionals and golfers to meet together on the links. These
types of golf tournaments help the golfers develop quality business
relationships with other local golfers.
A scramble is one of the most commonly used games when
playing in a golf tournament. Teams are made up of four golfers who are all playing
together to achieve the lowest score.
Each player tees off. The team selects the best tee shot, picks up the
other three balls, and drop them at the best tee shot. All players hit their 2nd shot
from the same spot, again choosing which the best shot was and picking up the
other 3 balls. This is repeated until
the ball is holed.
One way to make a golf outing more fun and competitive the
scramble will often have different caveats or variables attached to them. For example, each team of four golfers must
use at least 3 tee shots from each golfer. Or, the player whose tee shot is
used must hit the next tee shot from one tee box further back.
Scottsdale, AZ is a great place for a business to host a
golf tournament for their corporate retreat. The ideal weather and large number
of golf courses to choose from makes the Phoenix and Scottsdale Arizona the go
to spot when selecting a golf destination.
Every year Scottsdale, AZ hosts the PGA tour Waste
Management Open at TPC Scottsdale (stadium course). Hole 16 proudly boasts to be “the loudest hole
in golf”.
